Melissa Zelaya

Born in Honduras, she spent most of her life in Europe traveling, working and living.

Melissa went through to different work experiences, but didn’t find nothing that could satisfy her.

This kept Melissa searching for a better dimension for many years, constantly seeking for an activity which could encourage herself and her spirit. She was spending most of her time working in the London nightlife and the same was for her spare time. Partying too much without asking herself what was the real purpose of the life she was living.

Melissa was struggling to improve her family health issues back home in Honduras since her mom and younger brother where having serious mental illness. On that point, she left everything in London and went back home for almost 3 months where she saw with her eyes the suffering and the illness of her family, while treating this challenging matters.

Melissa was always curious about finding the purpose of her life.

In 2014 she discover in the Yoga practise the balance and the happiness she was looking for.

Melissa realised since long time ago that she always wanted to be involved in activities which could help other people to find themselves as she did for her on the yoga mat.

While practicing Yoga as a student, Melissa finally found her passion and discovered the healing benefits of yoga ( mental, physical and spiritual ).

Melissa gives a massive thanks to the teachers that inspired her and still does in many ways, first Jamie Clarke and Dulce Aguilar (The Yoga people), Marcus Veda, Celeste Pereira, Lizaan Jacobs, Aram Raffy Christian Coelho and many more and two new teachers that she discovery very recently Stewart Gilchrist and Eileen Gauthier.

  • AssistingAssisting Marcus Veda Marcus’ took the road less-travelled to yoga. Fresh out of Uni, he managed to use his degree in philosophy to justify spending his 20s touring the world as an international DJ, wholeheartedly committing to the hedonistic life. All professional jumping around was put pay to by a bad football tackle and compounded by some ill-fated onstage “breakdance” choices, that led to finally taking a (guru) friend’s advice in trying yoga to get fixed. A need to properly heal the body coincided with a sneaking desire for change in the mind that landed Marcus on the mat… Trying every style of class he could get to on every studio intro-offer in London, he finally landed on dynamic vinyasa and more specifically, the Ashtanga-inspired Rocket system, which satisfied his undying urge to fly.  Completing his first 200hrs teacher training with the Yoga People in Goa he went on to further train in advanced progressive ashtanga and Yin Yoga, deepening his appreciation of what yoga can be beyond the asanas that drew him in. He is also part of the Dead Yogis Society, a movement to wipe the gloss off the lips of yoga and return to the breath, sweat and rawness of the practice… Letting (e)go. 16:00 to 17:30

  • Ashtanga Vinyasa YogaThe Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yoga codified and popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois during the 20th century which is often promoted as a modern-day form of classical Indian yoga.[1] Ashtanga means eight limbs or branches, of which asana or physical yoga posture is merely one branch, breath or pranayama is another. Both Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois, his grandson, encourage practice of Ashtanga Yoga - all eight limbs. The first two limbs - Yamas and Niyamas - are given special emphasis to be practiced in conjunction with the 3rd and 4th limbs (asana and pranayama). Sri K. Pattabhi Jois began his yoga studies in 1927 at the age of 12, and by 1948 had established the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute for teaching the specific yoga practice known as Ashtanga (Sanskrit for "eight-limbed") Yoga. Ashtanga Yoga is named after the eight limbs of yoga mentioned in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. 12:00 to 13:15

Charity Yin – Yang Workshop for HOOP Peru

Date: April 9, 2017
Time: 14:30 - 17:30
Location: Yotopia Covent Garden, London
Price: £15 minimum donation
Booking: Call or Email  Stefania on 07802716749 / stefania_90@yahoo.it

Join our Peruvian-themed charity Yoga workshop for HOOP Peru and help improve other people’s lives while doing something amazing for yourself. This 3-hour workshop will be combining the two mutually complementary energies of life; Yin & Yang.

Your teacher Melissa will guide you through a supercharged vinyasa practice, Rocket Yoga. This is a strong, yang form of yoga, designed by Larry Shultz to create incredible strength, flexibility and balance.

The second part of the workshop will be based on a healing Yin Yoga practice. Yin Yoga is based on long-held poses where muscles are completely relaxed to allow us to access the deeper layers of the body. It works on releasing constrictions in the connective tissue, ligaments, and tendons that support the joints.

In this nurturing workshop Melissa will take you through a specific series of seated & supine poses. By breaking up blockages you’ll encourage the easier flow of energy around the body, moving you out of negative emotions. You’ll discover balance and find a deep peace in your body & mind.

The last part of the workshop will be dedicated to guided Meditation and Pranayama. Pranayama is the formal practice of controlling the breath, which is the source of our prana, or vital life force.

Don’t miss it! OM Shanti

HOOP Peru runs an English school, social work and health programs among other community projects in a shanty town in Arequipa, southern Peru, to help break the poverty cycle through education and empowerment.

I conduct private yoga classes at your home and office. Each session is designed specifically for you, and I will focus on exercises for your body type, taking into consideration your personal health and goals.
If you are a beginner and you want to start a healthy practice without being overwhelmed or intimidated by a group setting.
it is a great way to learn proper alignment and basics. If you are intermediate or advanced, it is the opportunity to take your practice a step further and work on personal needs or you want to take your practice deeper and focus, on specific asanas.
With private instruction, you can deepen your practice, increase your confidence, ask questions in a confidential environment and receive personalized guidance and hands-on adjustments tailored to you.

Corporate classes

Yoga is not just about being able to perform complicated poses and movements. It is a holistic approach to physical and mental health, as well as a person’s well-being and personal growth. Corporate Yoga is the extended concept of working peacefully in the midst of a hectic corporate environment.

Maybe the strongest reason for incorporating Yoga into your employees’ wellness routine is the ease with which a corporate Yoga program can be implemented with any kind of resources. The only equipment required for a session of Yoga are some floor mats and a bunch of willing participants with a strong desire for a healthier, more fulfilled life.

With the practice it will increase efficiency, productivity & creativity, improve focus under deadline, improve mindset and morale.
Enhance employee strength, posture and health & decrease chronic pain, decrease employee fatigue & back pain, decrease employee disease risk factors.

Regular practitioners of Yoga would stress that its many benefits include emotional wellness.
